  • Ivano-Frankove town (former name Yaniv)

    img

The town was founded as a trading town of Yaniv on the Magdeburg law in 1611. At the beginning of the 20th century, Yaniv received the status of a “resort” due to the ponds, which are still one of the favorite places for recreation in Roztochia. The central square of the town connects the church shrines – Trinity Church (1614), the Church of the Ascension (1831), the Cathedral of St. Volodymyr (1992), and some preserved houses on Rynok Square (19-20th centuries). The town has long been famous for Yavoriv woodcarving, valuable works are stored in the museum of wood art of the local Vocational Art School.

The jewel of the town is the ecological and educational center of Yavoriv National Nature Park. Here you can see the art exhibition “Animal Eyes”, the Museum of Historical Discoveries and take part in a master class on painting Yavoriv toys, dolls, wax candles.

The journey through the ecological and educational Ivan Franko’s Trail continues. It is known that while living in Lviv, Ivan Franko often visited the town of Yaniv, where he enjoyed fishing on the local pond, as well as picking mushrooms and berries in its forest surroundings.

The trail perfectly represents all the diversity of Roztochia nature. At different times of the year on the route, you can find rare and interesting species of flora, among them wild pepper, fir club moss, wide world parnassia, forest windflower, Turk’s cap lily, marsh iris, and more. Visitors have the opportunity to see rare species of plants of the orchid family: bird’s-nest orchid, Dactylorhiza majalis, butterfly orchid; observe waterfowl, of which there are more than 60 species. For better recognition, part of the flora and fauna is presented on information stands.

Traveling along the trail, we remember the works of Ivan Franko, which you can also see on wooden cartouches.
